North Hill Retirement Community Renovation Project – Needham, MA

The Beacon Projects Group is thrilled to announce the completion of the renovation project at The North Hill Retirement Community, located in Needham, MA.  The North Hill project consisted of renovations to the existing 130-seat Theater, Media Room and Intermission Lounge, plus adjacent bathrooms and hallways. 

The renovation includes modernizing the existing event space to be a dynamic performing arts center with an expanded and adjustable seating capacity, a new integrated technology systems for the audio and visual, with the latest advancements in acoustical technology with increased hearing assistance, new projections screen with closed captioning ability.  The new and improved Intermission Lounge also includes the latest innovation – a self-service tap system bar area for wine, beer, and mixed drinks as well as a state-of-the-art coffee station. 

It was very important to the residents and management of The North Hill Retirement Community to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and Beacon was proud to lead that charge.  There were many sustainable aspects to this renovation project, including VRF Heat Pumps, which uses the energy in outside air (either hot or cold depending on the season) to maximize efficiency; ERVs (energy recovery ventilators), which uses heat exchanger to warm/cool outdoor fresh air.  Most of the HVAC equipment uses variable speed motors that can operate at essentially an infinite range of speeds meaning that they only work exactly as hard as needed.  There is LED lighting throughout, all of the plumbing fixtures are low flow and the faucets in bathrooms all automatic, meaning they can’t be accidentally left on.  We installed occupancy controls where appropriate and required so the lights will turn off in unoccupied spaces automatically.  All the wood trims are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, almost all the carpet used has some component of recycled materials, and the paint used are all low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds).  We also incorporated Building Management Software, that will monitor and control temperatures to maximize efficiency.
